Computers
When computers first came of age, they were mainly used in the workplace and would take up a lot of space due to their size. As technology advanced the computing power increased and the size of the actual computer decreased in size.
A major breakthrough in home computing started in the early eighties when Clive Sinclair introduced the ZX80. Within a few years households throughout the country had either a ZX Spectrum or a Commodore 64. These were mainly used to play games, but the computer gave you a chance to learn the programming language, which at the time was BASIC.
These computers eventually died out and were replaced by the home computers we have today. Nowadays the home computer offers a vast amount of technologies. The memory is massive and with Microsoft adding their operating system to the majority of computers, people can use their PCs to create letters, design graphics, save digital photos etc.
The advent of the internet enabled people to create and view websites. As a result of this, people can do things such as buy products online rather than physically go to a shop. People can also stay in touch with each other by using email, or other 'chat' products such as MSN or SKYPE.
